Student Application Process

HOW THE SHEPHERDS PROGRAM WORKS:

The Shepherds Program is a nondenominational, non-profit organization founded ten years ago in Connecticut. Shepherds recruits a Sponsor who pays for a student’s four-year tuition at one of our 5 partnership schools and pairs the student with a Mentor who serves as a role model for the student, providing support and direction from freshman through senior year.

Shepherds students must make a commitment to work to their full academic ability and to become active, responsible members of their school community and the community-at-large,"giving back".

SHEPHERDS works. There are currently 90 students. Eighty-eight Shepherds students have earned their high school diplomas, 92% of whom are currently attending institutions of higher learning.

WHO ARE SHEPHERDS STUDENTS?

Shepherds students must meet ALL 4 of the following 4 criteria :

1)
Student must currently be an Eighth grader entering high school in September 2009
2)
An education at one of our 5 partnership schools would not be within reach due to the student’s limited financial resources.
3)

Teachers and guidance counselors recommend the academic structure and challenges that the Shepherds partnership school offers. Without these resources, the student might not finish high school.

4)

The student needs the support and direction a Shepherds Mentor brings in order to reach their academic and personal potential.

STEPS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN FOR CONSIDERATION FOR SHEPHERDS:

1)
Each candidate must take and pass the Entry Exam for the partnership school they wish to attend
2)
Once accepted, each candidate must pay the necessary fees to become a registered student
3)

Each candidate must complete all financial aid information and forms required by the school

4)

Each candidate must meet all 4 criteria for consideration: student standing, financial, academic and Mentor need

5)
If the school considers the candidate eligible for Shepherds’ consideration, they will offer the candidate a Shepherds Program application. Each candidate must complete the Shepherds Program application including Teacher and Guidance Counselor recommendations and notarized financial forms
6)
Each candidate and their Parent/Guardian must interview with Shepherds personnel

Acceptance into the Shepherds Program is not guaranteed.
There are limited scholarships available each year at each partnership school.
